Time for a bit of randomness!
I have a lot of interests. Sadly, I don’t get to indulge in them all for one reason or the other, but here are a few loves and quirks about me that you might discover after working with me for a while.
Lover of all the cute things
I’ll admit to being a typical girl in this regard. It doesn’t take much to get an “Awwwww” out of me. Show me a box of kittens or a box of puppies (prefer puppies), and I’ll be happy for the rest of the day.
Lover of games
Being the geeky introvert that I am, I tend to come alive when there is a game present. It’s not so much the escape of a game than it is the focus of having an objective – the gift every game gives. I’m teaching myself chess at the moment.
Lover of books
I don’t read as much as I used to read. There was a time that I read a book a day. I crave to be that person again. Fiction is definitely my thing. I’m not a fan of horror. Horror makes me loose my cool. I need my cool very much, thank you!
Lover of movies and some TV
When I was in college, I had a gig for the Sentinel (a local newspaper) in the movie critic section. I am pretty sure that was when my love for movies developed its massive wings. As a child, I was already a movie lover (echo “My Little Pony”), but now is no comparison to then. Documentaries, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Indie and Korean dramas are winners for me, but I’ll watch just about anything with the exception of horror and regular TV. At a push, I’ll watch select channels like The Discovery Channel, National Geographic and Game Show Network. Those are probably the top three I’d reach for instinctively.
Lover of dogs
I have never owned a dog of my own, but that will change eventually. My love for dogs can not be explained in words. Perhaps it can with interpretive dance, but with words – no!
Lover of art
I adore anything to do with expression. Creative expression, that is. I’m at home in any art gallery or performance environment. I am very much a lover of expression and creativity. Not to mention the drama of repetition. I am very much a lover of expression and creativity (hahaha…get it? “The drama of repetition”. Pay attention!). Although at an amateur level, I dabble a tiny bit in a few areas.
Lover of activity
Since my stroke, I’ve really embraced my 2nd chance at life and good health. My goal is to become an adult gymnast and trapeze artist, but I’m a long way from there. At the moment, I have grown to love walking, so I do that quite often. Swimming is another all time love of mine. For fun and sport, I enjoy trash talking during a game of badminton. Although I am fairly mediocre at the sport, my minds eye has me pegged as the Don of the sport. Hurrah to delusions of grandeur!
Lover of music
Music is one of those things that I can’t imagine my life without. I’d like to consider myself to be musical, but maybe not as active as I once was. Playing the guitar, violin and singing are the things that tick my boxes when it comes to music in my world. Although, I play neither of those instruments perfectly, it’s fun to learn. The crown of my singing glory is the collaborative album I made a few years ago called “View of Cloud 9” under my alias ‘Destini Apropos’. It was a fun project. If you’re feeling brave, it is still hosted on myspace (good luck with that) or here. Since then, I’ve done more professional listening than singing. Though partial to Christian Contemporary, I love all genres of music from Classical to Funk.
Lover of expression
I’m big on expression (see above if confused about why seeing this again is funny).
Whether it is my own expression or that of others. It all fascinates me! For myself, outside of photography, music and the creativity I enjoy when writing code, I enjoy expressing myself through writing. From poems to mini books, I’ve written a few (unpublished). In my free time, I pick at the monologue I’ve been constructing in hopes of it becoming a play one day. One day!
Lover of homey things
I hate to sound girlie and cliche, but I’m big on being homey. I love candles, warm blankets, well dressed tables, memorabilia – anything that makes a home feel lived in, albeit tidy and warm. Being nurturing is a big deal to me, and this does carry over into cooking too. Although I’m not big on eating these days, I certainly love creating meals to entertain at home. It’s fun and another form of creative expression. I think what I’m trying to say is that you can expect homemade cookies from me at some point.
Lover of experiences
I have always enjoyed the finer things in life. The motivation of this is largely down to logging new experiences, particularly thoughtfully curated ones. While I am a lover of nature, my love of experiences taps out when access to clean accommodation and private bathrooms becomes elusive. I typically avoid roughing it in the wild (and bugs). But give me a well air-conditioned and decorated Getaway cabin at the top of a mountain in the middle no where and I’ll happily fake being Jane (to Tarzan) any day.
Lover of cookery
Tied to my love of experiences, I thrive on creating culinary experiences for myself and others. I lean on my mixology degree to design amazing cocktails and mocktails to pair with my culinary creations. While I don’t consider myself an expert in the kitchen by any means, I am certainly no stranger to the space and hold my own quiet well creating dishes inspired by cultures all over the world.
